Your Forest School Director - Hal Eccles

My Story...

I grew up in the beautiful countryside of South Leicestershire, where muddy boots and outdoor adventures were just part of life. Some of my best childhood memories are from camping and trekking with my family, or from my time in the Scouts—where I even made it to Chief Scout! I loved every bit of it.

When I became a History and Geography teacher, I always jumped at the chance to take my class out on field trips. As a School Leader, I was forever looking for ways to get kids out of the classroom and into the fresh air. I just knew that learning felt different—and better—when it happened outside.

Being a dad of four has also shaped my view of the power of nature. Seeing how much my own children (especially my 12-year-old, who was finding school tough with his additional needs) benefited from woodland adventures really inspired me. I trained as a Level 3 Forest School Leader and decided to set up Wild Nurture CIC.

My aim? To bring the magic of Forest School—and all its woodland therapy and nature refreshment—to the whole community.

I truly believe children learn best when we nurture their natural curiosity and let them explore. Unexpected moments? I see them as chances for growth. My goal is to help every child build confidence, handle  challenges, and develop a lifelong love of learning—and a real respect for the world around them. Because every child deserves the chance to play outside, make discoveries, and connect with nature.

Committed of ongoing
professional development
and learning.
